Glass Fibre Optics Functional Architectural Lighting in Luxury Residence
19th Century Private Residence Philadelphia, PA
A custom one-piece 11' light rail was fabricated, attached to an illuminator with a five-color wheel. Timing of color changes could be varied. The light rail, fitted with hundreds of thin light guides, was sandwiched horizontally, along the entire length of the double-walled ornamental mesh fence. It was the longest such piece ever crafted by the manufacturer.
Because of the outdoor water features, marine grade stainless steel components were used throughout. Glare and light pollution were avoided while the three lamp/sources were conveniently located for easily relamping.
Fibre Optics was found to be less expensive than the alternate LEDs. It was also the only equipment that could fit into the allotted space to perform the functions planned by the designer.
Media Room in Contemporary Residence Philadelphia, PA
This two-level room, accommodating 60 people, was already completed when innovative lighting was requested. Large openings for downlights were in place, but the client wanted five authentic star constellations to twinkle in addition to dimmable ambient light.
With access to the ceiling from the floor, glass tails were pulled down for the constellations, and small openings were made for the higher level ambient light.
Both projectors were in a second floor closet, easy to access.
